We have had to drive 30min away to a dog park to get past the smoke, no luck today unfortunately . I saw the new Defender in the wild but I couldn’t get a pic, they are here now I guess.

Saturday in Atlanta is a donk lover’s dream. Or a bike lover’s dream as there are hundreds of the things doing wheelies through the streets but I digress. I wouldn’t call myself either of those things.

T his is in Novato CA mostly, the Jag is by my house. That is a little Alfa, I didn’t get the front or you would know right away. Cute little thing. The road goes right by the dog park, I went back to playing and I missed the “Defender”.

Ah, I knew it looked familiar but I couldn’t place it.

Turns out I walked past the Piedmont Park dog park at roughly the same time Slant6 was there so that’s something. I can’t say I’ve visited them often as Whippets are notoriously prone to getting hurt in dog parks so owners are advised not to take them.

You haven’t lived until you’ve seen a donked Polaris slingshot done up in neon with underglow. They are very popular here.

What I don’t understand is why doing illegal sideshow stunts on dirtbikes, quad bikes, and other unregisterable offroad vehicles is tolerated here. Big crowds of people flock together on weekend nights for that very thing.

I never knew it was possible to do simulta ne ous sustained wheelies on quad bikes before yesterday but the sight of 5 of them in a row is quite impressive.

Hmmm I think I can live without that on a regular basis. Hawaii is pretty well stocked with quads and dirt bikes too, no shortage of irresponsible behavior brah.

You’ve got to wonder where they keep them the other 6 days of the week though. It’s not as though you can just ride these expensive toys around Atlanta or errands with the protection of crowds of others doing the same thing. It's just off that I've seen more Polaris off-roaders here in the city than I have in the country.

NO! And they shouldn’t be able to do it illegally but the cops can’t stop 100 simultaneous wheelies in offroad bikes and quad bikes.

It’s honestly kind of comical to see 5 Polaris RZRs lurching down the streets as they aren’t the greatest at low speed manuevering and lean like crazy at the slightest steering input. The sundry neon encrusted Polaris Slingshots are street legal so they are much more popular.

Seriously, where are they storing quad bikes and how do they afford to keep them somewhere? How are they justifying 30k RZRs that are  illegal to use on the street?

Perhaps not legally earning the money. Spike strips should stop the lot of them, I am annoyed when I get a ticket for really tiny bullshit infractions yet they do this crap. I guess it depends on how much they want to rein it in.

Atlanta has stupid big money in the movie and music industry in particular. I don’t think the new tech and business money people are going out and buying a brand new RZR to drive illegally around the city (I saw a modified one with the safety info still taped to the dash) but the movie and music industry people aren’t known for their taste around here. If I want to see cool cars I walk through Midtown because that’s where the hipsters that like to pretend they’re poor live right next to the hipsters that don’t and the hipsters that actually are poor. In fairness it’s one of the most diverse places around.

Haha, as long as they aren’t smashing mirrors the cops just prevent cars from driving into them. You can see them taking up oncoming lanes in those pics.

Here’s a news video from a year ago that explains it well. You can’t use typical confrontational tactics with a group of hundreds of them. Plus with current racial tensions it’s wiser to just block traffic for them.

Strange, I work on shows and I’ve been a stagehand on Lost , never seen anything like that. We have some muscle car guys, BMW bike guys, the teamsters are the Harley people (Hells Angels actually ).

Atlanta is a weird place. No one who lives here is from here for one and there is tons of F-you-money and a shocking dearth in good taste. There is very little “old” money around here and no one really takes anything too seriously, unfortunately including our history which has resulted in tons of unforgivable blunders in preservation.

The donk people are ok as the point of their cars aren’t cruising but sitting and looking at but the bike people are obnoxious when they get together with their sense of crowd anonymity. About every fifth car is a V8 Dodge Charger or Challenger and they all rev their engines at every opportunity. Since they’re autos, that means stomping on the gas so it’s a good thing we’ve got wide open streets right now as I’ve seen tons of stupid behavior.

Well I will avoid Atlanta, thank you! Those Dodge Charger/Challenger pack people are serious knuckle dragging mouth breathers. My Dodge is nothing like that but it brings shame upon us all. I kind of want to move to Sitka and avoid people, I like it here but I think it will be too expensive to do anything and the fires will probably come annually unless they figure something out.

I’m not saying you should avoid Atlanta as it is a fascinating place in the breadth of its diversity but one particular demographic can be very annoying if you walk around on weekend nights. I love it here even with the sideshows. It’s not a place for people who don’t want random interactions with people though.

In that case I think it is just cities in general maybe but I’ve had way more random interactions with people here than I have in the other small number of cities I’ve visited.

Personally I find it amusing. Obviously not the homeless people asking for money but I have what my family commonly calls the “weirdo magnet gene” that I share with my mom. Maybe I’m just very approachable, but I have far more odd encounters with strangers than the rest of my family.

SF is pretty friendly, I do not want to live or work there but I have to go for work, if I ever go back to work! I’d like to move to Sitka, AK actually. Seems perfect for me. Not sure what I would do there though, I don’t want to live up there unless it’s in a pretty town.

Atlanta is pretty friendly too. No one takes the city very seriously anyways. I’m not saying it feels like a small town but it definitely has a different feel than NYC for example. It’s kind of hard to explain as the city feels so very different than any others I’ve been to. Have you ever been in the metropolitan area? I don’t think the airport counts.
